I paint in what was once the copier room of an old aerospace testing facility in El Segundo. The building was bought by a developer. There is not much time left. To quote Allen Ruppersberg, “It is all for the taking. They’re going to tear it down anyway.”
I have been at it for 20 years and have no formal training. For a majority of that time I climbed around in corporate America. Watching. Learning. Leading. Earning. Voracious museum-goer and reader of artist’s biographies. At my core I am a seventies feminist, raised on “Our Bodies, Ourselves” and a happenstance walk through Judy Chicago’s Dinner Party when it opened at SFMOMA when I was the ripe old age of ten.
Currently researching the emotional & economic histories of the United States. Biting the tail off of nostalgia.
A brief geo/chronological map of the work.
Chicagoland: Leaving home. Becoming career-Barbie. Coming out & going back in.
Hell’s Kitchen: Chakras and shit. An unplanned kundalini incident.
Venice: Cool down. Ocean. Mountains. 93.5 KDAY.
El Segundo: Figures take shape. Grief. Glee. Anger. Unbecoming career-Barbie.
